Azerbaijan has begun issuing updated national ID cards featuring a new design and additional personal information.
Citizens have recently started receiving the redesigned identification cards following a presidential decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev in August.
The key change in the new format is the inclusion of the holder’s place of residence, now displayed on the reverse side of the card.
In addition, the electronic chip has been simplified: compared to the previous version, it now contains only essential personal data, improving both security and efficiency in digital verification processes.
Officials say the modernization of the national ID system is part of broader efforts to streamline e-government services and enhance citizens’ access to digital public platforms.
