A new border checkpoint between Azerbaijan and Iran is expected to open in the coming months, Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Mojtaba Demirchilou announced during his visit to Nakhchivan, Report said.
According to the diplomat, there are currently four operational checkpoints between the two countries – Astara, Bilasuvar, Julfa, and Shahtakhti–Poldasht.
“The fifth crossing will be opened in connection with the construction of a new bridge in the Agband-Kalala region,” Demirchilou said. “

The ambassador emphasized that the new bridge and border crossing will create fresh opportunities to expand economic cooperation between Baku and Tehran and will also simplify transit between Nakhchivan and other regions of Azerbaijan.
