In Azerbaijan, women make up a small but notable share of those required to pay child support, according to new data from the Ministry of Justice.
Responding to a request from Modern.az, the ministry reported that around 2,800 women in the country are officially listed as alimony payers.
While the majority of child support cases still involve male payers, officials noted that the number of women fulfilling such obligations has grown slightly in recent years – a reflection, experts say, of changing family dynamics and evolving social roles.
The ministry also provided data on overall court decisions related to alimony enforcement:
2020: 18,288 cases
2021: 20,619 cases
2022: 17,621 cases
2023: 20,993 cases
2024: 23,327 cases
The steady increase in rulings suggests that family courts are becoming more active in enforcing child support payments across the country.
