A total of 18,639 people in Azerbaijan are currently registered with a diagnosis of breast cancer, according to Azad Karimli, Chief Physician of the National Oncology Center, Report informs.
“Last year, 2,876 new cases of breast cancer were detected,” Karimli said. “Of these, 610 were identified during preventive screenings. The disease was diagnosed at stages I-II in 1,309 patients, at stage III in 878, and at stage IV in 487 cases.”
Health experts emphasize that early detection remains the most effective method to reduce mortality, as timely diagnosis dramatically improves treatment outcomes.
October is marked globally as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, with health institutions in Azerbaijan conducting public campaigns and free screening programs to encourage women to undergo regular checkups.
