Natural Births Are Free Under Mandatory Health Insurance in Azerbaijan

Natural childbirth services at medical institutions under the management of the Azerbaijani Administration of Regional Medical Divisions (TEBİB) are fully covered and provided free of charge through the country’s Mandatory Health Insurance (MHI) system.

This was announced in an official post on TƏBİB’s Facebook page, where the organization outlined the procedures expectant mothers should follow to access maternity care.

👶 Key Points:

  • From the 30th week of pregnancy, the medical facility overseeing the pregnancy issues a special maternity exchange card to the expectant mother.

  • All prenatal care, including regular monitoring and postnatal supervision, is provided by obstetricians and gynecologists in accordance with primary healthcare protocols under MHI.

  • If there is a medical indication for a cesarean section, this procedure is also fully covered under the insurance.

  • In cases where a pregnant woman has a coexisting medical condition included in the list of services covered by the MHI, she is entitled to receive all necessary treatment free of charge.

TEBİB emphasized that ensuring maternal and child health remains a top priority, and comprehensive support for expectant mothers is guaranteed by the state through the national healthcare system.
