MP: Azerbaijan’s Land Borders Remain Closed Due to Terrorist Threats

Must read

Azerbaijan’s land borders remain closed due to ongoing terrorist threats, and there are no plans to reopen them in 2026, a member of parliament has said.

Speaking on the issue to Missiya.az, MP Tahir Rzayev stressed that the decision to keep the borders closed was made solely on national security grounds and was not accidental.

According to the lawmaker, the terrorist risks that prompted the closure have not disappeared and continue to pose a serious threat.

“The land borders were closed for security reasons. The main factor was terrorist threats, and unfortunately, these threats still remain,” Rzayev said.

He underlined that under the current conditions, reopening the land borders is not on the agenda, as the state cannot afford to take steps that could endanger public safety.

Rzayev also urged the public to rely only on official statements and not on speculation circulating on social media, noting that decisions of this nature are based on security assessments, not public expectations.

Despite ongoing public debate, Azerbaijan’s land borders will remain closed, and no prerequisites for changing the current regime exist at this stage.
