Russia views the “3+3” regional cooperation platform as an essential mechanism for strengthening dialogue and sustainable development in the South Caucasus, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a weekly briefing in Moscow.
According to the report carried by AzerTAc, Zakharova noted that Moscow expects Azerbaijan and Armenia to soon agree on the venue for the next meeting of foreign ministers participating in the format – either in Baku or Yerevan.
The decision, she said, should be made in line with the previously reached “package understanding” between the two sides.
“Russia will support any joint decision agreed upon by Baku and Yerevan,” she added.
Bilateral contacts create momentum
Zakharova recalled that Azerbaijani and Armenian officials held several direct contacts throughout the year – in Abu Dhabi, Washington and Dushanbe. These interactions, in her view, help accelerate coordination on the “3+3” agenda.
What the platform includes
The “3+3” framework brings together Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Russia, Iran and Türkiye. Three meetings have taken place so far, focusing on cooperation in:
economy
energy
transport
cultural and humanitarian exchanges
expert-level coordination
Zakharova stressed that the participation of every regional country – including Georgia, which has kept the door open – would contribute to building greater stability and prosperity across the South Caucasus.
“The more inclusive this platform becomes, the stronger the foundation for long-term peace and development,” she said.
