Moldova Denies Entry to Azerbaijani Students Traveling to Ukraine; Repatriation Underway

Around 40 Azerbaijani students who were denied entry to Moldova are being sent back to Azerbaijan, the Foreign Ministry confirmed on Thursday.

According to officials, roughly half of the group has already boarded an AZAL flight, while the return time for the remaining students is still unclear.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Aykhan Hajizada told local media that the Azerbaijani Embassy in Moldova is fully aware of the situation and has been providing assistance to the affected students.

Hajizada said Moldovan border authorities refused entry because the students—who were traveling onward to Ukraine for their studies – had improperly issued university admission documents.

“The Moldovan side did not allow these Azerbaijani students to enter the country due to incorrect paperwork related to their enrollment. They will be returned to Azerbaijan,” he stated.

The incident surfaced widely after videos and posts circulated on social media, showing that approximately 40 Azerbaijani students were stopped at Chișinău International Airport and barred from entering Moldova.
