The price of basic food products, especially meat and dairy, continues to rise in Azerbaijan. Despite variations in production volumes, both product categories share one common factor — a noticeable increase in price, which no longer surprises either consumers or sellers.
According to Ă–lke.az, the cost of butter, which was previously sold for 18 manat, has increased to 24 manat in just a few weeks.
Dairy product prices, in general, have risen by 10-20%. Meanwhile, meat prices remain consistently high with no signs of a decrease.
Economist Asif Ibrahimov explained that the primary cause of price growth is the domestic market’s inability to fully meet the demand for meat and dairy products. A significant portion of these goods is imported, including from Turkey, Russia, and Ukraine.
The price hike is directly linked to changes in international market prices, as well as logistical and currency factors affecting the cost of imported goods.
However, according to the expert, the price increase also applies to local products. Farmers are facing higher costs for hay and animal feed, making livestock farming less profitable. As a result, fewer people are engaged in this sector, which in turn affects production volumes and leads to further price increases.
