Masally, Azerbaijan – A man has been arrested and charged in the Masally district after it was revealed he intended to marry a 13-year-old girl who was already pregnant from another individual, according to Oxu.Az.
The incident unfolded in Masally city, where Farid Azadov (a pseudonym, according to the source), born in 2002, attempted to introduce himself to the girl (identified as F.N., born in 2011) at a city park. F.N. initially rejected his advances, but later connected with Farid on TikTok, where a relationship blossomed.
Farid subsequently expressed his desire to marry F.N., and she reportedly misrepresented her age, claiming to be nearly 18 years old, when in reality, she was 13. After a period of dating, F.N. disclosed that she was pregnant, and the child’s father was another individual named Dashgyn. Farid, despite this revelation, accepted the situation and took F.N. to his relatives’ home in Baku, intending to proceed with the marriage. He reportedly informed his family that the girl was pregnant with his child and that he planned to marry her.
Farid’s parents, upon learning of the situation, went to F.N.’s parents to arrange the marriage. It was during this meeting that they discovered F.N.’s true age of 13, making an official marriage impossible under the law. The families then agreed to a five-year waiting period until F.N. reached the legal age for marriage, and Farid’s family presented an engagement ring.
However, once the police became aware of the pregnancy and the circumstances, they intervened. An investigation was launched by law enforcement, leading to Farid’s detention and the initiation of a criminal case.
During the subsequent forensic examination conducted as part of the legal proceedings, it was confirmed that F.N. was indeed pregnant from someone other than Farid.
Farid also admitted to engaging in sexual relations with the girl and taking her away with the intention of marriage. By court order, F. Azadov was sentenced to 3 years and 3 months in prison.
