A domestic dispute in Baku’s Narimanov district took a violent turn after a man and his two wives attacked a neighbor during an evening tea gathering.
The incident stemmed from ongoing tensions between Valeh Mamedov (born 1995, name changed), who lives with two women and their five children in a converted garage, and his neighbor Emil Karimov (name changed), who was reportedly fed up with the noise coming from the overcrowded household.
The conflict escalated when Karimov began filming the family’s gathering outside the garage with the intent to post the video on social media. Mamedov repeatedly asked him to stop recording, but when his requests were ignored, a verbal altercation broke out, quickly escalating into physical violence. Both of Mamedov’s wives joined in the attack.
Karimov sustained multiple injuries to his head and body and was hospitalized. Police launched an investigation and later charged Mamedov with assault. A local court found him guilty and sentenced him to 1 year and 3 months of restricted freedom.
The case has drawn attention on social media, sparking debate over illegal polygamy, housing conditions in urban districts, and the lack of community dispute resolution mechanisms in Baku.
