Some taxi drivers in Baku have suggested introducing restrictions on the number of taxis operating in the city, arguing that the ease of entering the market has weakened oversight and led to excessive competition.
However, transport expert Eldeniz Jafarov told Metbuat.az he does not support setting such a limit at present.
According to him, market demand naturally regulates the number of taxis:
“When demand increases, the number of taxis rises; when demand drops, their numbers fall. The proposal from drivers reflects the Turkish model, but personally, I would not want to see it implemented in Azerbaijan,” he said.
