Beirut, August 12 – A new chapter in bilateral relations opened in Beirut with the establishment of the Lebanon–Azerbaijan Friendship Association, an initiative aimed at strengthening cultural, scientific, and economic ties between the two nations.
According to the State Committee on Work with the Diaspora, the association was created on the initiative of Lebanese alumni who earned their degrees in Azerbaijani universities — most notably engineer Akram Tarhini. The organization’s mission is to expand cooperation in science, culture, education, tourism, healthcare, and other fields, fostering deeper connections between the peoples of Lebanon and Azerbaijan.
Tarhini, now serving as the association’s president, is also a project director at Lebanon’s Council for Development and Reconstruction. His personal ties to Azerbaijan date back to 1991, when he studied at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University and later at the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction. Over the years, he has attended multiple high-level events in Azerbaijan, including state receptions and international forums.
Recently, Tarhini participated in the opening ceremony of the Azerbaijan House in the village of Kawashra, Lebanon — a project that not only promotes bilateral relations but also holds significance for the local Turkmen community. The event was seen as a milestone in fostering grassroots cultural diplomacy and enhancing Azerbaijan’s presence in the Middle East.
