Kobakhidze: Goal of Hybrid Attacks on Georgia Is to Undermine National Interests

Hybrid attacks targeting Georgia are aimed at destabilizing the country, undermining state institutions, and provoking unrest through fabricated narratives – ultimately damaging national interests and triggering new internal confrontations.

According to Report, citing Georgian media, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze made the remarks during a government briefing.

Kobakhidze said the State Security Service’s investigation confirmed that since 2007, Georgian Interior Ministry officers have never used prohibited chemical agents to disperse crowds – directly rejecting claims recently aired by the BBC.

“Since there is nothing left to investigate regarding the alleged use of so-called ‘Kamita’ or other banned substances, all investigative actions on this matter have been completed, and the topic is closed,” he said.

However, Kobakhidze emphasized that investigations will continue against individuals accused of assisting foreign actors engaged in hostile activities against Georgia.

“All individuals or groups for whom sufficient evidence has been collected – showing that their deliberate actions caused serious harm to Georgia’s national interests, international reputation, or were aimed at undermining state security – will be held fully accountable under the law,” he stated.

The prime minister added that neither the government nor the State Security Service will allow foreign intelligence services or their local collaborators to threaten Georgia’s sovereignty or damage its national interests.
