Kidneys Lead as Azerbaijan Conducts 203 Organ Transplants

Azerbaijan carried out 203 organ and tissue transplants from January–August 2025, according to the country’s Coordination Center for Organ Donation and Transplantation, cited by Report.

Breakdown by procedure

• Kidney: 60 transplants (58 adults, **2 children) — the most in-demand organ.

• Liver: 36 transplants (32 adults, **4 children).

• Cornea: 85 transplants (84 adults, **1 child).

• Bone marrow: 22 transplants (21 children, **1 adult) — the least frequent category.

Donor registration

Since the 2009 law “On Donation and Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues” took effect, 544 people in Azerbaijan have registered to become posthumous voluntary donors, the Center added.
