Karapetyan Files New Lawsuits Against Armenian Public and Political Figures

Businessman Samvel Karapetyan, who was previously arrested in Yerevan, has filed new lawsuits against Armenian public and political figures, demanding public retraction of defamatory statements made against him and compensation for damages.

According to information published on the judicial acts website Datalex, Karapetyan has sued the ruling “Civil Contract” party, political scientists Ruben Mehrabyan and Levon Shirinyan, blogger Roman Baghdasaryan, politician Azat Arshakyan, and Lusine Kesoyan. 

This is the second lawsuit against Baghdasaryan, in which the businessman demands a retraction of previously made defamatory statements within five days and payment of 6 million drams (about $15,000) in compensation, as well as court costs. Two lawsuits have been filed against political scientist Ruben Mehrabyan. Karapetyan is demanding a public apology for defamation and the recovery of 3 million drams (about $7,500) for each lawsuit from the political scientist, as well as court costs.

From the “Civil Contract” party, the businessman demands a public retraction of defamatory claims, the publication of the court decision on this case on the civic.am portal, as well as compensation for moral damages in the amount of 9 million drams (about $23,000) and court costs.
