Jafarov Shines With Silver; Teammates Fall Short in Riyadh

Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Hasrat Jafarov (67 kg) claimed the silver medal at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh. Jafarov finished second after a hard-fought final against Iran’s Saeid Esmaeili, losing 3:8.

Earlier, Jafarov advanced to the final by defeating Egypt’s Mohamed Abdelrahim 4:1 in the semifinal.

  • Nihat Mammadli (60 kg) lost 0:3 in the quarterfinals to Uzbekistan’s Alisher Ganiev.

  • Ulvi Ganizade (60 kg) was defeated 0:9 by Iran’s Amir Abdi in the round of 16 but will still compete in the repechage after his opponent reached the final.

  • Islam Abbasov (87 kg) was eliminated after a 0:3 loss in the quarterfinals to Iran’s Gholamreza Farrokhisanjani.

The Islamic Solidarity Games will conclude on November 21.
