Yousif Pezeshkian, son of Iran’s president, has spoken out against radical factions attacking the government’s policy of developing ties with Azerbaijan, calling instead for a reasoned and evidence‑based approach.
“Our actions have consequences we cannot escape,” he said in a statement. “Maturity means not only believing in what we say, but also thinking about the consequences, assessing possible damage, and being ready to accept the results.”
Pezeshkian criticized public figures who have repeatedly claimed — without proof — that Baku is aiding Israel. He questioned whether any evidence had been provided by Iranian intelligence or security agencies, or by Iranians living in Azerbaijan. “The answer is clear — not a single official source has confirmed such claims,” he noted.
He warned that spreading such accusations risks needlessly straining bilateral relations. Outlining three possible scenarios, Pezeshkian rejected war with Azerbaijan or maintaining a “no war, no peace” stalemate, saying both would harm Iran’s interests. Instead, he urged pursuing the third option — pragmatic cooperation despite political and strategic differences.
“Political disagreements are natural, but we can still find common ground in areas such as trade, the economy, and even security,” he stressed.
