Iran is open to restarting negotiations with the United States over its nuclear program — but only if Washington guarantees it will not launch military strikes on Iranian territory, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in an interview published Tuesday by Le Monde.
“We are ready to return to the table,” Araghchi stated, “but the United States must first change its behavior and refrain from attacking Iran.”
His comments, which were echoed by Iranian news agency Tasnim and reported by Interfax, mark the first direct signal in months that Tehran is open to re-engaging with Washington over the stalled nuclear diplomacy.
Indirect talks between the two sides, mediated by Oman, have so far gone through five rounds but failed to reach a breakthrough. A sixth round was called off after Israel carried out airstrikes targeting Iranian assets.
Tensions in the region remain high, with Iran increasingly linking the resumption of talks to broader security guarantees — a stance that underscores the fragile balance of diplomacy and deterrence in the post-JCPOA era.
