Iran is open to resuming dialogue with the United States over its nuclear program — but only under assurances that such talks will not escalate into conflict, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during a meeting with foreign diplomats in Tehran.
“We are ready for dialogue, but naturally, we need guarantees that if negotiations resume, the actions of the U.S. and other countries will not lead to war,” Araghchi stated, expressing concern over Washington’s recent shift away from diplomacy.
He emphasized that Tehran remains committed to diplomatic solutions, but stressed that the U.S. must first demonstrate a genuine interest in peaceful resolution. Araghchi accused the U.S. of abandoning its diplomatic approach and warned that missteps by international actors could derail any progress toward de-escalation.
His comments come amid mounting regional tensions and stalled efforts to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which the U.S. exited in 2018.
