The Rasht–Astara railway line will be fully opened within the next four months, according to Hadi Hakshenas, governor of Iran’s Gilan province, APA reports.
Hakshenas stated that over the past seven months, 70 km of the railway has been put into operation. With a total length of 162 km, 90 km of the line is now open.
.
“Only 70 km remain. I believe the full opening of the Rasht-Astara railway will be completed within the next four months. The Iranian government is determined,” the governor said.
He added that, because the railway is being commissioned in stages, preparatory work for rail installation is being carried out in parallel. The contractor working under an agreement with Russia will move to the next stage once the entire line is commissioned. According to the project plan, the total construction period for the Rasht–Astara railway is three years.
Hakshenas also noted that a meeting of the Azerbaijan–Russia–Iran trilateral commission was held in Baku last month.
“Deputy prime ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia, Iran’s minister of roads, and I participated. After the meeting, we traveled from Baku to Lankaran and then to Astara to review progress on the project. The minister issued instructions to accelerate work,” he said.
