One of the most common labor law violations in Azerbaijan involves denying extended leave to mothers with multiple children, according to Salima Guliyeva, a representative of the State Labor Inspection Service, who spoke on Dost TV.
Guliyeva noted that violations related to parental leave have become one of the leading causes of citizen complaints.
“We’re seeing increasing reports of employers denying legal vacation rights, especially to mothers,” she said. “In some cases, even pregnant women are being employed without a formal labor contract.”
She added that companies violating labor laws are held accountable or fined based on citizen complaints, in accordance with Azerbaijan’s Code of Administrative Offenses.
According to the country’s labor legislation, regardless of the length of a worker’s primary or additional annual leave, women with two children under the age of 14 are entitled to two extra calendar days of leave each year. Mothers with three or more children under 14 — or a child with a disability — are entitled to five extra days.
Yet despite these protections, enforcement remains weak, and vulnerable groups, especially mothers, continue to face systemic challenges in exercising their rights at work.
