Hybrid cars are being actively imported into Azerbaijan, but most of them are coming not through official dealers but privately. This could create serious problems for owners of such vehicles in the future.
This was stated by Eyub Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of the Association of Car Dealers of Azerbaijan, in an interview with Iqtisadiyyat.az. According to him, out of every 100 cars imported into the country, 70 are purchased by private individuals, bypassing official dealers. This practice, in the expert’s opinion, could result in many risks for buyers.
“If a car is purchased from an official dealer, the buyer can expect defects to be addressed under warranty services. However, hybrid and electric cars nowadays are mostly ordered online or through private intermediaries. In the case of malfunctions, they are simply impossible to repair – such cars essentially turn into waste,” noted Aliyev.
He explained that intermediary dealers do not provide, and cannot provide, warranties for such cars. The situation becomes particularly complicated when a battery needs to be replaced, as it must be transported in a special way due to it being considered hazardous cargo. For an average person, delivering and installing a new battery turns into an extremely complex and costly process.
“As a result, the car owner faces high repair costs or even the impossibility of performing repairs. Therefore, I strongly advise citizens to purchase cars only through official dealers. Many try to save 3-4 thousand manats when buying, but in the event of a breakdown, they can lose 3-4 times more – or simply be left with a useless car,” the expert emphasized.
