An unusual natural spectacle is unfolding in Azerbaijan’s Bilasuvar district, where hundreds of flamingos have arrived weeks earlier than expected at the Mahmudchala hunting and bird reserve.
The site ranks among the top three locations in Europe for bird diversity and wintering populations – and this year’s early arrival has drawn both locals and wildlife enthusiasts to the area.
Residents say that while only small groups of flamingos were seen last year, large flocks have now gathered across the wetlands.
Specialists attribute the shift to unusually mild seasonal conditions, noting that the region’s climate this year has created an exceptionally favorable environment for flamingo wintering.
Mahmudchala’s protected area spans 7,136 hectares and serves as a vital habitat for migratory birds during the colder months.
