Azerbaijani cyclist Nataliya Vallek has written her name into the country’s sporting history by winning first place at the GranFondo cycling race in Ankara — becoming the first Azerbaijani woman ever to claim victory at the prestigious international event.
Speaking to local media after the race, Vallek said to Report the triumph was the product of relentless preparation and teamwork.
“This victory is the result of my coach Musa Mikailzade’s well-designed program and my own persistence,” she said. “The race was very tough — the competitors were strong and ambitious — but I gave everything not to miss this victory for my country and my team.”
Vallek covered the 91-kilometer course, which included 1,300 meters of elevation, finishing ahead of all rivals and also securing the top spot in her age category.
Looking ahead, she stressed that the win is just the beginning:
“I want to win in every tournament I enter, and I’m ready to give my maximum. An athlete who achieves success must always aim for new heights.”
Her achievement marks a milestone moment for Azerbaijani cycling, spotlighting the sport’s growing potential on the international stage.
