German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a phone call with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on December 4, congratulating Baku on the recent momentum in advancing the peace agenda with Armenia.
Merz emphasized that Germany fully supports stability in the South Caucasus and welcomed the progress achieved in recent weeks.
President Aliyev thanked the Chancellor for his remarks, noting that Azerbaijan itself is the initiator of regional peace efforts and remains committed to securing a durable and sustainable peace framework.
The two leaders also discussed prospects for strengthening bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Germany, touching on areas of mutual interest and future cooperation.
Chancellor Merz invited President Aliyev to pay an official visit to Germany.
President Aliyev accepted the invitation with appreciation and, in return, invited the German Chancellor to visit Azerbaijan – an invitation Merz likewise accepted.
