Baku, September 20, 2025
The head of Caspian Logistics Solutions and former senior SOCAR manager Adnan Ahmadzade has been detained by Azerbaijan’s State Security Service (SSS) and placed in pre-trial custody for four months, according to reports confirmed by law-enforcement sources.
Initial word of the detention was circulated by the Truth & Transparency Committee, after which sources in the security agencies confirmed Ahmadzade had been remanded to the SSS pre-trial facility.
While authorities have not publicly detailed the charges, an unofficial version links the case to a July 2025 incident involving the contamination of Azerbaijani crude with hazardous organochlorine compounds.
The episode is said to have stemmed from a tanker delivered to a Baku terminal, prompting questions over the criteria used by SOCAR staff to accept incoming cargoes and whether technical control officials could face accountability.
Ahmadzade led SOCAR Trading until 2018 and previously held other roles within the state oil company. He later founded Caspian Logistics Solutions in 2018, headquartered in Dubai and focused on rail, sea and road freight as well as dry-bulk solutions. The firm lists partnerships in Azerbaijan, including with Hovsan Port and several local logistics operators.
Neither Ahmadzade nor SOCAR had issued public comment at the time of reporting. The investigation is ongoing, and no court has ruled on the merits of the allegations.
