Retail fish prices in Azerbaijan have climbed sharply compared with recent years, with average market rates rising from 7–8 manats per kilogram to 14–15 manats, ATV reported.
Sellers say prices vary by species, weight, and origin (river, sea, or lake), and by whether the fish is local or imported.
The Center for Fisheries and Aquaculture under the Ministry of Agriculture periodically holds fairs aimed at curbing artificial mark-ups; buyers say fish is cheaper at these events. On open markets, listed prices range from 4 AZN/kg for the lowest-cost varieties up to 15 AZN/kg for premium types.
Vendors acknowledge that once the fairs end, most households are left paying full market prices that often strain family budgets.
