Authorities in Azerbaijan have issued a warning about phishing websites masquerading as official social assistance portals, targeting citizens’ personal and banking information.
According to cybersecurity officials, scammers are creating fake websites that imitate government platforms related to social aid and welfare services. These sites are designed to trick users into entering sensitive data, including identity details, account credentials, and bank card information.
Officials note that phishing attacks are often carried out through mass emails or messages sent in the name of well-known institutions or government services. Users are typically directed to links that closely resemble legitimate websites but contain subtle differences in domain names.
Cybersecurity experts advise users to carefully check website addresses before entering any personal information. Misspellings, unusual symbols, or unfamiliar domain extensions are common warning signs of phishing attempts.
Authorities urge the public not to click on suspicious links received via email, messaging apps, or social media, and to avoid sharing banking or personal data with unknown sources.
Several of the fake domains have already been identified and added to a national blacklist of malicious websites. Once reported and verified, such sites are blocked at the national level and shared with international partners to limit access from abroad.
Users who suspect they have encountered a phishing website are encouraged to report it through official cybersecurity reporting platforms so action can be taken promptly.
