EU Seeks Stronger Regional Role With High-Level Visit to Baku

European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Marta Kos will arrive in Azerbaijan on September 18 for an official visit, the EU office in Baku has confirmed.

During her stay, Commissioner Kos is scheduled to meet with President Ilham Aliyev, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, and Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov.

She will also travel to Aghdam, where she will observe demining efforts and meet with specialists working in the field.

“The visit comes at a key moment in the Armenia–Azerbaijan peace process,” the EU office said in a statement.

“It will provide an opportunity to present the EU’s agenda for regional cooperation as a concrete contribution to development. In addition, Commissioner Kos will discuss common strategic interests with Azerbaijani authorities, including energy, transport, and demining.”

The trip highlights Brussels’ effort to play a more active role in South Caucasus diplomacy, while deepening cooperation with Azerbaijan on regional stability, energy security, and infrastructure projects.
