Istanbul, August 25, 2025 — The implementation of the Zangezur transport corridor will give a powerful boost to economic cooperation between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in a national address following a cabinet meeting broadcast by TRT Haber.

“The Zangezur Corridor is a project of peace. Its implementation will add a new dimension to economic partnership between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Armenia,” Erdoğan stated.

On August 22, Turkey launched construction of a 224-kilometer railway line that will become a key segment of the corridor, linking Kars in eastern Turkey with Nakhchivan. The €2.4 billion project is expected to be completed within five years and will enable the annual transportation of 15 million tons of cargo and 5 million passengers, according to Turkish officials.

The corridor, also referred to in Turkey as the Zangezur route, stems from the August 8 declaration signed in Washington by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and U.S. President Donald Trump. The agreement calls for reopening regional transport links, including a route through Armenia’s Syunik province, branded as the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” and to be managed by a joint Armenian-American company.
