ANKARA, July 17 — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has firmly rejected any plans to divide Syria, stressing Turkey’s commitment to preserving the country’s territorial integrity.
Speaking in a televised address to the nation following a cabinet meeting, Erdoğan said, “We categorically will not allow the partition of Syria.”
He emphasized that Kurds in Syria, like those living within Turkey’s borders, are considered “our brothers,” and reiterated Ankara’s role as a regional stakeholder. “We are the rightful owners of this land,” Erdoğan declared. “Defending the territorial integrity, national unity, and multicultural identity of neighboring Syria remains a cornerstone of our foreign policy.”
His remarks come amid renewed regional tensions and ongoing concerns over autonomous Kurdish regions in northern Syria, which Turkey views as a potential security threat.
