Emin Agalarov — People’s Artist of Azerbaijan, businessman, and visionary — has built a career balancing the worlds of music, real estate, and large-scale cultural projects. From the high-profile DreamFest music festival to the ambitious Sea Breeze resort developments, his ventures have set new benchmarks in the industry.
In an interview with Media.Az, Agalarov offered a behind-the-scenes look at DreamFest 2025, discussed how music and business fuel one another, and revealed plans for what could become the largest casino in Europe, soon to open in Azerbaijan.
On DreamFest 2025’s New Format
Agalarov described this year’s festival as a success despite logistical challenges, crediting the team for seamless coordination and favorable weather. “Last year was our first attempt, and we were still adjusting to many organizational issues. This time, everything worked in sync. I’m confident next year will be even brighter and more exciting,” he said.
The event’s eclectic mix of performers — from tributes to legendary Azerbaijani baritone Muslim Magomayev to international hits of the 1980s and 90s, and cutting-edge rap — was intentional. “Music unites generations and tastes, serving as a bridge between eras,” Agalarov noted.
Balancing Music and Business
Although real estate projects occupy about 80% of his time, Agalarov says music remains a source of joy. He continues to explore new styles, citing his recent duet Lyubimaya with Jah Khalib and an upcoming English-language album of classic hits.
Sea Breeze and Global Influence
His experience abroad shapes the design and concept of Sea Breeze and other developments. “Everything inspiring I’ve seen while traveling, I bring back to my projects,” he said.
Casino Project as a Tourism Driver
Agalarov revealed plans for a massive casino complex on artificial islands designated for legalized gaming in Azerbaijan. At 90,000 square meters, it could become one of Europe’s largest. “We’re waiting for official approvals, but we’re ready to start building as soon as possible. This will be a major boost for tourism and the economy,” he emphasized.
Family and Mentorship
Proud of his sons’ early steps in business, Agalarov explained that they have each launched their own restaurant projects, choosing concepts and partners independently. “They’re very self-driven, and I’m proud of their maturity and business sense,” he said.
Personal Routines and Views on AI
To clear his mind and generate ideas, Agalarov dedicates two to three hours daily to sports. He also embraces new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, for architectural design and presentations.
When asked what his 20-year-old self would think of him today, Agalarov replied simply: “Nothing to change. Only forward.”
If given the chance to collaborate with any historical figure from Azerbaijan, he would choose Muslim Magomayev and Heydar Aliyev, calling them “truly great people of the nation.”
