Law enforcement agencies in Baku carried out a raid on the offices of Hurriyyet TV, detaining the outlet’s editor-in-chief Vugar Mammadov, who also heads the newspaper Hürriyyət and the news site hurriyyet.az.
According to Bakupost.az, investigators searched the media company’s headquarters, seizing computers and several documents as part of the operation.
While authorities have not issued an official statement on the reasons for the detention, local media speculate that the case may be linked to the ongoing investigation involving former presidential administration chief Ramiz Mehdiyev.
Vugar Mammadov is the brother of Gurban Mammadov, a London-based opposition blogger known for his sharp criticism of the Azerbaijani government.
The arrest adds to growing scrutiny of politically affiliated media outlets in the country, as law enforcement continues a series of operations targeting figures connected to controversial political circles.
