A drone flying toward the Russian capital was shot down early Thursday morning, according to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin.
Explosions were reportedly heard in the Domodedovo area of the Moscow region, local residents told Russian media.
As a precaution, operations at Moscow’s Domodedovo and Zhukovsky airports were temporarily suspended due to the attempted drone attack. Authorities have not reported any casualties or damage.
Emergency services and security officials remain on high alert as investigations continue into the source and trajectory of the drone. Russian air defense systems have responded to numerous UAV incursions in recent months amid heightened tensions related to the war in Ukraine.
