Trump has repeatedly highlighted what he calls his peacebuilding record on the global stage, citing efforts to help end conflicts between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, ease tensions between India and Pakistan, and broker agreements between Serbia and Kosovo. He has also pointed to his role in “maintaining peace between Egypt and Ethiopia” and negotiating the “Abraham Accords” — a landmark pact to normalize relations between Israel and several Arab nations.
The former U.S. president also made attempts to mediate between Ukraine and Russia, though these efforts have not yet produced significant results.
Notably, the push for his nomination was discussed during a trilateral meeting in Washington, when President Aliyev suggested — alongside Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan — sending a joint letter to the Nobel Committee.
“Donald Trump deserves this. He managed to conclude a lengthy negotiation process in a short time. Together with the Prime Minister of Armenia, we can write a letter to the Nobel Committee,” Aliyev said in a joint statement.
The Nobel Peace Prize, established by Swedish inventor and industrialist Alfred Nobel, is awarded in Oslo, Norway — unlike other Nobel prizes presented in Sweden. The award’s monetary value depends on the Nobel Foundation’s investment returns and currency exchange rates, averaging around 100 million Swedish kronor (about $1 million).
For 2025, a total of 338 candidates are in the running for one of the world’s most prestigious honors.
