More than 100 diplomats and representatives of 12 international organizations from 51 countries visited the under-construction Khakari railway station in Azerbaijan’s Zangilan district, part of the Zangezur Corridor linking mainland Azerbaijan with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
According to Report, the delegation was briefed on the progress of construction, the development of railway tracks and station infrastructure, and future plans for the project. The railway section passing through the Khakari station will form a key part of the Zangezur Corridor, including its 42nd TRIPP segment, which is projected to traverse Armenian territory.
The visit was led by Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration. Diplomats also toured Jabrayil and Zangilan, observing reconstruction and resettlement efforts in the liberated territories.
“This marks the 20th visit of the diplomatic corps to the liberated regions of Azerbaijan, including the Karabakh and East Zangezur areas,” Hajiyev said.
“Foreign diplomats saw firsthand the scope of restoration and construction works, as well as the process of returning displaced residents and reviving life in these regions.”
Hajiyev emphasized that since 2021, Azerbaijan has been financing and building the Horadiz–Zangilan section of the Zangezur Corridor using domestic resources.
“Infrastructure for rail and road transport, including tunnels, is being built intensively,” he noted. “On another segment, Armenia is carrying out work bilaterally with the United States. We are monitoring these processes and considering international partnerships for the 188-kilometer Nakhchivan section of the railway.”
The visit, Hajiyev added, holds diplomatic significance, allowing international representatives to witness Azerbaijan’s reconstruction efforts and regional connectivity projects firsthand – a visible symbol of the country’s commitment to post-conflict development and transnational cooperation.
