The United States has deported another group of Iranian citizens under a transfer arrangement coordinated between Washington and Tehran, The New York Times reported, citing unnamed Iranian officials.
According to the newspaper, a plane carrying around 50 Iranian nationals departed from an airport in the state of Arizona. The aircraft is scheduled to make stops in Egypt and Kuwait before the passengers are returned to Iran.
This marks the second such flight this year. The first, with roughly 100 Iranian deportees, left the United States in September.
NYT also reports that the aircraft is carrying nationals of Russia and several Arab countries, who are expected to disembark during the stopover in Cairo.
According to the newspaper, approximately 2,000 Iranian citizens are currently awaiting deportation proceedings in the United States.
