Dairy Without Refrigeration, Fish Sold Uncovered: Markets Fail Safety Checks

Azerbaijan’s Food Safety Agency (AQTA) has uncovered multiple violations at food markets in the Tartar, Gusar, and Barda districts, including the sale of pickled products of unknown origin.

According to AQTA, inspections revealed serious breaches of hygiene and food-safety standards across several market facilities.

Officials reported that market employees were not provided with proper protective clothing required by food-safety regulations. In the dairy sections, inspectors found a shortage of refrigeration equipment, while milk and dairy products were offered for sale without expert examination certificates or transport documentation.

The violations extended beyond dairy goods. Inspectors observed poultry and fish displayed uncovered, exposed to external contamination, and sold without any supporting documents confirming their origin or safety.

One of the most concerning findings was the presence of pickled products of unknown origin, sold without labels, certificates, or information about production conditions.

AQTA stated that market owners have been issued mandatory instructions to eliminate the violations. Monitoring will continue in the coming weeks.
