Azerbaijan’s Sabail District Court has ordered the pre-trial arrest of Ali Karimli, chairman of the Azerbaijani Popular Front Party (APFP), following charges brought against him under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code.
The court session, presided over by Judge Ulviya Shukyurova, approved the prosecution’s request to impose a detention measure of 2 months and 15 days.
Karimli was detained earlier by the State Security Service (SSS), together with Mamed Ibrahim, a member of the party’s Presidium. Both men are accused under Article 278.1 – acts aimed at the violent seizure of state power and the violent alteration of the constitutional order.
