YEKATERINBURG, September 10
The Verkh-Isetsky District Court in Yekaterinburg has extended the pre-trial detention of Mutvaly Shykhlinski, son of the head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in the city, until December 14, 2025, according to the Sverdlovsk regional court service.
Shykhlinski was first placed in custody on July 16 by the city’s Leninsky District Court. He faces charges under Article 318.1 of the Russian Criminal Code — alleged violence against a representative of authority.
The case stems from an incident on July 1 near the “Baku Plaza” complex, when Federal Security Service (FSB) officers moved against his father, Shahin Shykhlinski, the head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg. Mutvaly Shykhlinski, who was driving the car, was accused of obstructing law enforcement.
In court, Shykhlinski said he had not noticed the officer on his right side and expressed regret over the incident. His defense maintains that the charge is unfounded.
The ruling has not yet entered into legal force.
