What should be a day of joy is increasingly turning into a financial trial for young couples in Azerbaijan. Rising inflation across every corner of the wedding industry – from jewelry to banquet halls – is driving costs so high that many newlyweds start family life deep in debt.

Jewelry: Sparkling but Costly

Jewelry remains one of the most expensive elements. “Our most affordable zirconium sets start from 1,300 manats. Diamond sets begin at 2,300 and can reach 10,000 manats,” said to KhazarTV a salesman at a Baku jewelry store.

Men’s wedding bands with zirconium cost from 250 manats, while diamond versions start at 550. Women’s rings follow the same pattern, with prices rising sharply depending on the quality.

Furniture: Imported Taste, Imported Prices

Traditional dowries in the form of full furniture sets also require heavy spending. Local bedroom and living room sets cost between 5,000 and 7,000 manats, but many families now prefer Turkish imports priced from 10,000 to 30,000.

Italian options can skyrocket to 50,000–100,000 manats. Banks are stepping in with credit programs for furniture purchases – a solution that eases the upfront cost but leaves families with long-term debt.

Capturing the Moment: Photos and Film

No wedding is complete without professional photography and video. Standard packages cost 5,000–7,000 manats, while multi-camera shoots can run from 3,000 to 13,000. Photoshoots alone range between 300 and 4,000 manats. In the regions, prices are often higher because of transport and accommodation costs for the crew.

The Banquet: The Biggest Expense

The banquet is the centerpiece of any Azerbaijani wedding – and the largest expense.

“There are all-in-one menus at 50–60 manats per guest, but higher-end options from 80 to 100 manats exclude music and photography,” explained a wedding organizer.

Hiring a professional ensemble or singer costs at least 2,500–3,000 manats, while quality videography adds around 2,000.

For 200 guests, a well-catered event with music and filming pushes the per-head cost to 120–130 manats. Since guests typically gift around 100 manats each, families often end up covering the shortfall themselves.

Cars, Dresses, and Makeup

A bridal car can cost anywhere from 80 to 2,000 manats depending on class, with a four-car motorcade averaging 650 manats.

Decorations range from 30–50 manats for simple ribbons to 250 for fresh flowers.

Makeup and hairstyling for the bride cost 500–1,000 manats, while the groom’s preparations average 80–150.

Renting a wedding dress runs between 500 and 800 manats; a groom’s suit between 70 and 100.

In today’s market, a mid-level Azerbaijani wedding costs no less than 20,000–30,000 manats. For couples opting for luxury choices, the price can soar far higher. For many families, the celebration ends with cherished memories – and years of repaying the bill.
