Chinese Cars in Azerbaijan See Sharp Price Drop, Expert Explains Why

Must read

Baku, August 18, 2025 — Prices for Chinese-made cars in Azerbaijan have fallen sharply in recent months, dropping by an average of 4,000 manats in just two months, according to market listings. Analysts say the decline is linked to a combination of competitive pressures and the growing role of unofficial imports.

Transport expert Yasin Mustafaev told local media that the majority of Chinese vehicles on the Azerbaijani market arrive through unofficial channels.

“More than 70 percent of Chinese cars today are imported by non-official dealers. Only around 30 percent come directly from factories and are sold through official dealerships with full warranties,” he explained.

Mustafaev pointed to intensifying competition among these unofficial importers as the main factor driving prices down. The influx of vehicles brought in through so-called “gray” schemes has created oversupply, putting pressure on pricing strategies.

“The key issue is that cars imported unofficially do not come with warranties,” he added.

“This means that owners must personally cover any costs related to factory defects or technical problems that may arise during use.”

Industry observers expect the market to remain volatile in the coming months, with continued downward pressure on prices but persistent concerns about the reliability and after-sales support of unofficially imported cars.
