Azerbaijan’s men’s national chess team clinched the silver medal at the European Championship in Batumi, Georgia, Report informs.
The lineup of Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Rauf Mamadov, Aydin Suleymanli, Magomed Muradly, and Eltaj Safarli scored 13 points to finish second.
Ukraine won the gold, and Serbia took bronze.

In the final round, Azerbaijan lost 1-3 to Serbia. A win would have delivered the title. Meanwhile, the women’s team fell to Poland 1.5-2.5, confirming that they would not reach the podium.
