The cost of imported car spare parts in Azerbaijan has jumped by more than 17 percent this year, hitting drivers’ wallets and sparking frustration across the country.

According to official figures, the value of imported parts reached $1.74 billion between January and August, a 17.2 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The rise has quickly translated into higher prices in local markets.

Drivers told KhazarTV they are seeing hikes of around 15 to 20 percent across the board.

Sellers confirm the trend with specific examples: an engine chain that once cost 70 manats now sells for 88, while certain parts priced at 195 manats last year now fetch 245. Even basic items have surged – a thermostat that used to cost 50 manats now goes for 70.

The squeeze extends to the second-hand market. A used part previously selling for 120 manats is now 160, while a used engine that cost 1,000 manats has climbed to 1,200.

Merchants attribute the spike to more expensive imports and higher transport costs. For drivers, however, the explanation offers little comfort as the cost of keeping their cars on the road keeps climbing.
