BAKU — September 2, 2025. Azerbaijan will witness a total lunar eclipse on Sunday, September 7, the second lunar eclipse of the year. The event—often called a “Blood Moon”—will be visible across Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, with prime viewing in Azerbaijan from evening to just past midnight, the Astrophysics Department of Baku State University reported.
During a total lunar eclipse, the Sun–Earth–Moon line up perfectly and Earth’s shadow fully covers the Moon. The Moon turns red-orange because sunlight is filtered and scattered through Earth’s atmosphere—letting the longer red wavelengths reach the lunar surface.

How to watch
No special equipment needed. Lunar eclipses are safe to view with the naked eye, binoculars, or a small telescope.
Best experience: Choose a spot with a clear, low horizon and minimal city lights; the red hue often looks most dramatic when the Moon is near the horizon.
Photo tip: Use a tripod, low ISO (100–400), and bracket exposures (e.g., 1/30–1 sec) to capture the copper tones.
If skies cooperate, viewers across Azerbaijan can watch the Blood Moon unfold live through the evening—an unforgettable night for both astronomy fans and casual skywatchers.
