Beef Prices Fall in Azerbaijan After Disease Fears and Cheap Imports

Must read

Beef prices across several regions of Azerbaijan have fallen by around two manats per kilogram after reports of foot-and-mouth disease among livestock caused consumer demand to drop.

According to KhazarTV, butchers and market sellers say both beef and lamb have become cheaper as buyers remain cautious. In the Tovuz district, the price of one kilogram of beef has declined from 17 to 15 manats, while lamb has dropped from 20 to 18 manats.

A similar trend is observed in Jalilabad, where meat prices have decreased by about 1–1.5 manats. Vendors there report that beef previously sold for 16–16.50 manats per kilogram is now offered at 15 manats. Yet, even with the price reduction, customer traffic remains low.

Sellers explain that two key factors are driving the decline: concerns over the recent livestock disease reports and the influx of cheaper imported meat, which has increased competition and further pushed prices down.
