Beef Prices Climb in Baku as Supply Shrinks and Costs Mount

Must read

Baku, July 13 — Red meat prices are climbing steadily across Baku, with sellers and consumers both feeling the impact of tighter supply and rising production costs. According to a report by Xezer TV, the price of male beef cuts has increased noticeably over the past week.

Until recently, beef was commonly sold at 15 AZN per kilogram in many markets. Now, prices have surged to 15.50 AZN and even 16 AZN per kilogram in certain butcher shops—an increase of up to 7%.

Butchers and vendors say the uptick is tied to a combination of seasonal and structural factors:

  • A shortage of cattle in the domestic market.

  • Declining interest in livestock farming during the summer months.

  • Elevated feed and input costs, which continue to put pressure on local producers.

“Farmers are spending more on feed, fuel, and care for livestock, and this naturally drives prices up,” one vendor explained.

While prices appear to have stabilized for now, a drop is not expected in the near term. Butchers also say there is little clarity on when or whether the market will return to lower price points.

The rising cost of beef comes as part of a broader trend in Azerbaijan’s meat markets. Poultry and processed meats have also seen gradual increases, though at a slower pace.

For consumers, the message is clear: prepare for a sustained period of elevated prices unless supply dynamics shift or government support measures are introduced.
