Beef and Lamb Prices Climb in Baku Ahead of Holidays

Must read

Meat prices have increased in parts of the Azerbaijani capital, particularly in the Ramana settlement, where the cost of beef, lamb, and mutton has climbed by an average of 2–3 manats.

Meat has been selling at higher prices for a second consecutive day in the “Shusha” residential area, which is part of New Ramana’s administrative territory.

Currently, beef sells for 17 manats per kilogram, mutton for 15.5 manats, and lamb for 21 manats. Just three days ago, beef was priced at 15 manats, and in some butcher shops at 14 manats. Lamb previously sold for 18–19 manats per kilogram.

Butchers link the price increase to rising demand for beef after concerns over foot-and-mouth disease subsided.

“People are no longer hesitant to buy beef. Demand has increased, and prices followed,” sellers said.

The upcoming New Year holidays have also contributed to the rise.

“Ahead of the holidays, farmers raise prices, and we are forced to do the same,” butcher Teymur Safarov told local media.
