Baku, July 9 — Renovation works are underway at ASK Arena in Azerbaijan as part of preparations for the launch of a youth football academy affiliated with FC Barcelona, one of Europe’s most prestigious clubs.
A representative from AzFar Group, the company overseeing the project, told reporters that the initiative includes the complete restoration of the main pitch — approximately 9,500 square meters — and a secondary training field measuring around 4,200 square meters. Both fields will receive new turf installations to meet international standards.
The project is tied to the upcoming opening of FC Barcelona’s youth training academy in Baku, marking a significant milestone in Azerbaijan’s football development efforts.
Project Scope
In addition to field upgrades, the renovation includes:
Modernization of stadium lighting, with the installation of energy-efficient systems in line with international regulations for professional sports facilities;
Full refurbishment of locker rooms, restrooms, and auxiliary areas used by players and club staff;
Installation of new ventilation and air-conditioning systems in the administrative section of the stadium, including athlete and staff facilities.
The launch of a Barcelona-affiliated youth academy signals a broader effort to elevate football infrastructure and talent development in Azerbaijan. ASK Arena, which has hosted domestic league matches and international fixtures, will serve as the hub for the Spanish club’s training programs in the region.
Further details about the opening date of the academy and youth enrollment opportunities are expected to be announced later this year.
